6 Reasons why we love (affordable) GREECE

  1. Whether you explore some of the many ancient artefacts or just relax on some of the most pristine beaches, Greece will take your breath away. The capital, Athens, is a fascinating destination on its own. Most of the city’s buildings were constructed in the 5th century BC. These classic buildings are regarded as icons of Ancient Greece. Be sure to visit the Acropolis of Athens, a majestic site with ancient temples and buildings set on a hill close to the city. The most famous is without a doubt the impressive Parthenon. Following its construction, the Parthenon remained in use for more than a thousand years, and despite some damage over the years, it still dominates modern Athens.
  2. The recent economic turmoil in Greece may have made life difficult for the locals, but has also created an awareness for them to be far more inventive when it comes to tourism. You will find accommodation surprisingly well priced which makes Greece and especially Athens, a very affordable destination.
  3. Greek is the local spoken language. Most of the younger generation, especially people who are involved in tourism, have a sound knowledge of English and majority of the locals are very friendly and accommodating!
  4. South African passport holders will require a VISA when visiting Greece, as it forms part of the Schengen states in Europe. You will therefore need to apply for a Schengen VISA. When you have a Schengen VISA, you can also visit other Schengen countries with the same VISA!
  5. The best time to visit Greece is around April and May or late Aug and Sep, when it tends to be less crowdy, prices are lower and overall temperatures are very pleasant.

Greece is not only affordable, but one of the most romantic destinations!
