11 Reasons why we love BUDAPEST (Hungary)

  1. Hungary proudly presents one of the most fascinating capitals in the world. Budapest is lively, yet elegant and stylish. The city is shared by two communities on either side of the Danube River. Buda, on the west side of the river, is older with narrow, winding streets and many historical buildings. Pest, on the opposite side, is the commercial centre and tends to be livelier, especially at night time. Budapest offers a rich cultural experience and draws artistic, musical and literary communities from all over the world.
  2. We highly recommend a romantic Danube river cruise with stunning all-round romantic views of Budapest.
  3. Budapest’s beauty is compared to cities like Prague and Paris and boasts “must visit sites” like the (UNESCO’s World Heritage) Buda Castle, the Museum of Fine Arts, Liszt’s Music Academy, The Royal Palace and the popular Nagycsarnok farmer’s market.
  4. Be brave and visit Óbuda, the oldest and lesser known part of Budapest and don’t forget to stop for lunch at the 100-year old Kéhli Restaurant for a memorable Hungarian meal.
  5. With a largely flat city centre, plenty of public parks and riverfront areas, it is ideal to explore Budapest by bicycle! Contact us to rent a bike and discover more of this beautiful city.
  6. Take a guided tour to the magnificent Houses of Parliament and be awed by the scale and opulence of the 3rd largest parliament building in the world.
  7. For first time visitors, we highly recommend an introductory Budapest “Hop-on-hop-off” bus tour (reservations can be done with us), which includes 26 site visits. A free night tour and river cruise will also be included. Your ticket is valid for 48 hours and will also include a complimentary gourmet guide.
  8. For those who want to dig a bit deeper, we highly recommend “The Alternative Budapest Walking Tour”. This is an off-the-beaten-tourist-track tour which covers a wide variety of themes and topics – from Budapest’s graffiti and street art culture to current politics, relevant history, personal stories, fashion and design, architecture and the local music scene.
  9. Another great experience is to explore the city with an original Trabant 601 (small, nostalgic car) or in a Barkas minibus, a classic communist vehicle. This ultimate sightseeing experience is fun beyond measure and certainly something different!
  10. Other excursions which we can highly recommend include a Hungarian Folklore Show, a Budapest Evening Bike Ride, The “Floating Bus” experience or Skip-the-line entry visits to some amazing Thermal Spa’s.
  11. Budapest is not only one of the most picturesque and favoured cities to visit, but Hungary as a destination is also one of the most affordable countries for South Africans.
