12 Reasons why we love (child-friendly) MAURITIUS

  1. Mauritius is known for its year-round tropical climate, crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches and all-inclusive family friendly resorts! Building sand castles and playing in the gentle shallow waters is enough to satisfy your kids for the entire vacation. The warm, welcoming smiles of the Mauritian locals and a wonderful variety of activities on the island will make your family want to stay forever.
  2. Not only are the flights to Mauritius more affordable than most destinations, but travelling time from Johannesburg is only 4 hours! Air Mauritius also offers the very popular “Travel Smart Program”. Some highlights of this program include: business class lounge access during certain times of the year (prior to departure), the privilege of taking additional luggage at no extra cost and FREE airfare for children under the age of 12!
  3. No VISA’s are required for South African passport holders travelling to Mauritius. This is certainly a great advantage and ensures hassle-free travel plans!
  4. When is the best time to travel to Mauritius?
    • The summer months (end of October to the end of March) are hot and humid with occasional to frequent tropical rainstorms.  This is also considered to be peak season and generally not the most affordable time of year to visit Mauritius, although many people do because of school holidays.
    • Autumn and Winter months (April to the beginning of October) are generally mild to warm with less rain. This is a great time to travel as the island tends to be less crowded and overall costs are less.
    • The weather on the East coast can be unpredictable due to the South-east trade winds, especially during winter months (June to August).  We therefore recommend that summer (October to March) is generally the best time to visit the East coast.  The East coast is also best for snorkeling and diving…
    • The West coast and especially the North-west of Mauritius is known for great weather all year round.
  5. Almost every resort has kids & teens clubs (ages 3 to 17), with non-stop indoor and outdoor activities as well as babysitting services. Some resorts even have ‘interleading’ rooms where kids can stay in one room and their parents (privately) in the room next door, connected with an interleading door.
  6. While there are endless entertainment options for children; what is there ‘to do’ for parents? “Land” and “Water” Sport and Activities differ from resort to resort. But as a generalization, the following activities are most of the time included in resort rates:
    • Waterskiing
    • Use of Kayaks
    • Wakeboarding
    • Windsurfing
    • Laser Sailing Craft
    • Pedalo Boats
    • Glass-bottom Boat Trips
    • Snorkeling Trips
    • Aqua Gym
    • Floodlit Tennis Courts
    • Stand Up Paddling
    • Archery
    • Table Tennis
    • Beach volleyball
    • Bocciball
    • Stretching Classes
    • Use of Gym Equipment
    • Usually also available, but at a surcharge:  Deep-sea fishing; Catamaran Cruise; Bicycle Rentals; Scuba Diving Lessons and Golf/ Green fees.
  7. If the “Resort Concept” is not for you, Mauritius also offers many Self-Catering Villas & Apartments for rent. While you won’t necessarily have water-sports and other activities included (as with most other resorts), we can offer you a list of exciting activities which you can pre-book with us. Let’s highlight some attractive options for families…

Chances are good that you will encounter a great variety of the 1500 birds, a selection of wildcats, zebras, giant tortoises and long-tailed monkeys. Your next stop (before returning to your hotel) will be the Village of Chamarel (Southwest Mauritius) where you can marvel at the magnificent Chamarel waterfall and the “Seven-coloured Earths”, a geological formation made up of basaltic lava and clay minerals.
