10 Reasons why we love (affordable) CROATIA

  1. Croatia’s affordability is one of the main reasons why more and more South Africans choose to travel to this beautiful country instead of traditionally popular island style destinations. The rest of Europe is also within close traveling distance if you’re planning to extend your trip! Note: If you have an extended Multi-Entry Schengen Visa (that is valid during your Schengen and Croatia stay), you do not need a separate Visa for Croatia!
  2. There are excellent accommodation options in cities such as Zagreb (Croatia’s capital), Dubrovnik, Split and others. We highly recommend the many charming historical hotels and guest houses in and around the old city centres. Most hotels are small with limited availability, so we recommend that you book your holiday long in advance.
  3. A little further down the Dalmatian coastline, you will discover the peninsular old town of Zadar, also known for its Roman and Venetian ruins. The town’s historical centre is a compact pedestrian zone, so it’s ideal to explore by foot! Zadar is also famous for its rare Sea Organ, which is powered by the wind and the sea. As the sea pushes air through the whistles, a series of melancholy chords are played, with beautiful sounds emerging through the perforated stone stairs. This is a must-hear-to-believe experience!
  4. Croatia is mostly known for the numerous islands edging its picturesque coast. From Vis to Hivar to Korcula, you will discover traditional customs, delicious local delicacies and many interesting markets. Some islands might seem a bit more commercial, others untouched, but all of them will most assuredly fulfil your holiday experience in a very unique way.
  5. The ancient city of Split is one of the oldest in the world and was built around the Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace, also an UNESCO World Heritage (cultural) site. Today, it’s a blend of ancient and modern – but most importantly, the gateway to explore Croatia’s many islands!
  6. The red rooftops and walls of Dubrovnik, set against the blue Adriatic coastline has become an icon for Croatian tourism, with a rich, fascinating history. We will gladly assist with any countryside tours or other life enriching excursions departing from Dubrovnik.
  7. Mainland Croatia holds many treasures. Visit the Plitvice Lakes National Park in Central Croatia. This beautiful forest reserve with its chain of 16 terraced lakes, is joined by waterfalls which extend into a limestone canyon. Explore the many winding walkways and hiking trails surrounded by water. A must visit experience!
  8. The official spoken language in Croatia is Croatian, but the major and coastal cities have enough tourist exposure for the locals to speak English surprisingly well.
  9. It is advisable to use the local currency (the Croatian Kuna) when visiting Croatia. Euros will be accepted by upmarket shops, restaurants and hotels but not at a favourable rate of exchange and any ‘change’ will be paid in the local currency. Do not exchange your Rand to Kuna’s in South Africa as it will be too expensive. It’s best to withdraw Kuna’s from the local ATM’s in Croatia.
  10. Croatia is not only affordable, but also one of the world’s most romantic destinations!
